GUIDE TO GAIRLOCH AND LOCH MAREE

AND A MAP AND ILLUSTRATIONS

By John H. Dixon, F.S.A. Scot.

This book is essential reading if you want to know all about life in the area, especially if you are researching your family tree as it gives a lot interesting detail about the parish your ancestors came from and may even mention them by name.

Dixon's 'Gairloch' has long been recognised as a minor classic. Written in 1886, it describes in considerable detail all aspects of the history, physical features and life in the parish of Gairloch at that time. The writer, John H. Dixon, made his home at Inveran on the shores of Loch Maree, and took a keen interest in the welfare of the inhabitants whom he represented for many years on the County Council.

The hardback book has been reprinted by the museum several times, most recently in 2004. It is sold in Gairloch Heritage Museum shop (as well as at Gairloch TIC, Beinn Eighe Visitor Centre and Inverewe Garden) for £22. It can be ordered from the museum at this price plus postage and packing as detailed below.
